The Former DP&L steam generating plant closed its doors in the mid-1980s after eight decades of operation. Several attempts to revitalize the historical building failed and the city of Dayton took ownership of the abandoned property.
The unique architecture, arched windows, curb appeal and location in Downtown Dayton “spoke” to the current owner who was looking for office space in the area. The owner was instantly captivated by the building not only for its potential as office space but for its monumental and un-recreate-able grand hall which he envisioned as a “natural” entertainment and event venue.
The result is a careful three-year renovation and rehabilitation of the neglected space. A deliberate process to maintain the historical integrity of the building while bringing it into the 21st century to offer first-class amenities. Every aspect of the building has been touched to give The Steam Plant a second life!
Our wedding was at The Steam Plant and it was everything I imagined it to be. This place is incredible with the best people running it!
We had a business sales award event for 250 people. The venue was spectacular! Lisa Beam did a phenomenal job coordinating the event. Everything was perfect! We will return next year!
Beautiful event venue with extremely helpful staff. We just held Dayton Startup Week there, which is a week-long event, and they made set-up, tear-down, and everything in between the easiest it has been in our first 3 years of running this event.
We looked all over the U.S. trying to figure out what kind of environment we wanted for our wedding. I was brought back home to Dayton when I found the Steam Plant and knew right away it was where we would get married after meeting Lisa. She was so great and easy to work with and I felt like she was a long time friend. The space is limitless, with so many locations where you are able to create an intimate space or have a big ol’ party. We did both and I wouldn’t have it any other way;)
This venue is top notch! From a photographers point of view, this place is amazing. I absolutely can not wait until my next wedding there! Staff was more than accommodating and professional. They personally greeted each guest and vendor with a smile. Thank you for an incredible experience. I can not wait to come back.
I got married at The Steam Plant in May of 2018. Lisa and John were amazing and we appreciate them so much. They had people help set up and Lisa was there day of helping. The venue itself is stunning, needing few decorations. The bridal suite is so useful and beautiful. If you are considering the venue, stop by and see it because you’ll be blown away.
